In March 26, the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) held a press conference for the “Embrace with Love” campaign, and Sincere Healthcare was honored to be one of the co-organizers. This initiative aims to encourage parents to adopt positive parenting methods, creating a loving environment for children to grow up in. We believe that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing family, which is the core reason for our support of this campaign.

Current Child Protection Issues: Corporal Punishment by the Family

According to the latest survey report by the TFCF, more than 20% of parents admitted to using corporal punishment for their children in the past month, viewing it as an acceptable form of discipline. This situation has raised concerns given the well-documented negative impact of corporal punishment on children’s physical and mental health and the parent–child relationship. The TFCF report highlights that parents recognize the potential harm of corporal punishment, with 60.1% acknowledging that corporal punishment may have adverse effects on their children’s physical and mental health, 42.3% noting that it could negatively affect the parent–child relationship, and 36.9% identifying it as a form of violence. Despite this awareness, the TFCF emphasizes the difficulty of appropriately disciplining children in real-life parenting, particularly when dealing with vulnerable, helpless children on the “first line.”
While presenting the “Parents’ Views on Parenting” survey report, Director Tsai Wen-chin of the Social Work Department urged parents to engage in positive parenting and to listen to the children, thus promoting healthy parent–child relationships.
